Each January, Las Vegas hosts the world’s largest gathering to showcase the newest and most significant consumer technologies at CES 2020. Automotive tech garnered an increasingly greater presence again this year, with the latest automotive technologies and exciting new vehicle launches seemingly dominating the show. Naturally, Xilinx adaptable, intelligent devices were front and center powering many of the cutting-edge ADAS and autonomous vehicle innovations on display. Our Zynq UltraScale+ MPSoC portfolio was showcased throughout the show, powering systems ranging from cyber-security to the latest in automotive-grade sensors and connected car architectures. With over 170 million devices deployed in the automotive market, we were honored to be recognized with multiple CES Innovation Awards in automotive categories!

Here’s a look at the Xilinx-powered innovations that won big at CES 2020 and are keeping us in the fast lane of the automotive market:

  • Powering cutting-edge LiDAR: Many new functions in next-generation cars, from driver assistance to autonomous driving, require a heightened ability to perceive what’s happening around the vehicle in diverse driving conditions. With our flexible and adaptive automotive solutions, Xilinx technology is the ideal solution to handle these needs. Our Zynq UltraScale+ MPSoCs were featured by Xilinx partners that are each leader in the LiDAR market, including these three companies whose technologies were recognized with CES 2020 Innovation Awards:
  • Blickfeld demonstrated its automotive-grade, solid-state LiDAR sensor called the Blickfeld Cube, powered by Xilinx 16nm Zynq UltraScale+ MPSoC. Blickfeld’s Cube LiDAR was named a CES 2020 Innovation Awards Honoree in the category of Vehicle Intelligence & Transportation.

  • RoboSense showcased its RS-LiDAR-M1, the world’s smallest MEMS-based solid-state smart LiDAR sensor system, in which the deep learning-based AI perception algorithm is powered by our Zynq UltraScale+ MPSoC. RoboSense also won this year’s CES 2020 Innovation Award for the RS-LiDAR-M1 in the Vehicle Intelligence and Self-Driving Technology category.

  • Ouster demonstrated its full suite of digital, high-resolution LiDAR sensors powered by Xilinx Zynq UltraScale+ MPSoCs. At the show, Ouster announced its new ultra-wideview OS0 LiDAR sensor and a full lineup of 128-channel resolution LiDAR sensors. The company also received a CES 2020 Innovation Award for Vehicle Intelligence & Transportation

  • Creating a secure and personalized vehicle: Cybersecurity is a foundation for the connected car, and GuardKnox showcased its technology for creating a secure environment within a vehicle, powered by a single Xilinx MPSoC. Our 16nm Zynq UltraScale+ MPSoC was shown powering safety- and non-safety critical domains with isolation, partitioning, and access control. With this security by design approach, a vehicle can host multiple operating systems, services and applications consolidated with the assurance that each domain operates independently of the other.

  • Defining and refining the in-cabin experience: Xilinx technology-powered advanced, new in-vehicle sensor systems featured by two partners:
  • Eyeris, designer of the world’s most advanced and comprehensive portfolio of vision-based deep neural networks (DNN) for in-vehicle scene understanding, showcased the first in-cabin sensor fusion AI integrating image, radar, and thermal sensors. Powered by Xilinx Zynq UltraScale+ MPSoC technology, Eyeris’ combination of analytics from the various sensors enables the world’s most comprehensive solution for detecting babies or children left behind in motor vehicles. Eyeris demonstrated the unit in its private suite as well as in a Tesla Demo Vehicle outside of the show floor.

  • Enabling advanced architectures for automated drivingXilinx partner Real-Time Innovations (RTI) demonstrated its Connext Drive data connectivity framework for autonomous vehicle development, based on the Data Distribution Service (DDS) standard and integrating many of the components needed to build an autonomous vehicle. Connext Drive, already used in automated driving vehicles today, runs on our Zynq UltraScale+ MPSoC. The Connext Drive framework is designed to create an elegant architecture with uniform data access, from embedded ECU to cloud.
