One possible reason for a fatal error in this situation is if there is not enough memory available in the destination directory. The fatal error occurs when creating a new project if the destination directory has a minimal amount of space, but not enough to create the project. Because there is some space available at the initial check, Project Navigator does not capture the Out of Memory state and fails.

Check the available space in the location where the project is being created.Clear up additional space or use a different location if needed.
