The following installation instructions apply to the Foundation Design Entry/Implementation Tools Update:

See Resolution #2 for installation instructions for the Foundation Express Synthesis Update.
See Resolution #3 for installation instructions for the Data Files Update.

File Name: F15I_SP1A.ZIP

Description: Foundation F1.5i Service Pack 1 to provide updates to Design Entry Tools, Design Implementation Tools, and CORE Generator.

F15I_SP1A.ZIP is an incremental release to be placed over F15I_SP1.ZIP; it contains new part files that support newer speed grades of Virtex XC4000XLA, SpartanXL, and XC4000XV devices. If you have already installed F15I_SP1.ZIP, you may simply run DEVICE_UPD.BAT from this newer F15I_SP1A.ZIP to add support for these newer speed grades.

**This Service Pack is an update to the Foundation F1.5i software.**
**You MUST have F1.5i software installed before installing this update.**

Notes:
*This file does not include Xilinx Device Data File updates. To install Data File updates, download 15i_sp1_4kxla_data2.exe (XC4000XLA), 15i_sp1_spxl_data2.exe (SpartanXL) and/or f15i_sp1_virtex_data.exe (Virtex) from the Software Updates page at:
http://support.xilinx.com/support/techsup/sw_updates/index.htm.

*This file does not include the Foundation Express synthesis update. To install the Express v3.1 update, download fexp_sp1a.zip from the Software Updates page at:
http://support.xilinx.com/support/techsup/sw_updates/index.htm.

Platform: Windows 95/Windows NT

Installation/Use:
Unzip the contents of F15I_SP1A.ZIP into a Temp directory, maintaining subdirectory structure. The ZIP file will extract a subdirectory called FND_SP1, which contains the Service Pack update files as follows:

<TEMP>\fnd_sp1\design_entry_upd.exe
<TEMP>\fnd_sp1\design_impl_upd2.exe
<TEMP>\fnd_sp1\coregen_upd.exe
<TEMP>\fnd_sp1\device_upd.bat
<TEMP>\fnd_sp1\files
<TEMP>\readme.txt

You should have about 100MB free disk space on the drive where the %TEMP% directory is located to allow the files enough space to be extracted.

To install Design Entry Tools update:
- Double-click on design_entry_upd.exe

To add XC9500XV support and additional speed files for Virtex, XC4000XLA, XC4000XV, or SpartanXL to the Design Entry Tools:
- Double-click on device_upd.bat

To install Design Implementation Tools update:
- Double-click on design_impl_upd2.exe

***If prompted to overwrite existing files, select "Yes" to overwrite.***

To install the CORE Generator update:
- Double-click on coregen_upd.exe
*You must have CORE Generator v1.5 installed before installing this update. This is an incremental update only.
*When prompted for install directory, select the directory where COREGen is currently installed (typically C:\Coregen).

*New IP for CORE Generator must be downloaded separately at:
http://www.xilinx.com/products/logicore/coregen/corelinx1_5.htm

*For information on what's new in this CORE Generator update, please see (Xilinx Solution 5630).

***If prompted to overwrite existing files, select "Yes" to overwrite.***

Installation Troubleshooting:

1. "Cannot Find Program Location" error when installing the Design Entry Tools Update.

This is caused an attempt to install this Service Pack over version F1.5 or earlier of the Foundation software. This Service Pack must only be installed over version F1.5i.

2. An error occurred during the move data process: -115
Component: Aldec
File Group: Exe
File: %XILINX%\Active\exe\APPCN.DLL

This is caused by an attempt to install the Design Entry Tools update while Foundation is currently running. Close Foundation before installing this Service Pack.

3. An error occurred during the move data process: -113
Component: New NT Files
File Group: New NT Files
File: %TEMP%\PFT1~TMP\IMPL\data\xc9536.adr

This error is caused by installing one of the Service Pack updates too quickly after installing another update. The %TEMP% directory needs about 5-10 seconds to clean itself up from the first install. If a subsequent installation is run before the %TEMP% directory has been cleaned up, you may see this error. Simply rerun the install that failed, and it should work successfully.

File Name: FEXP_SP1A.ZIP

Description: Foundation F1.5i Service Pack 1 to provide update to Foundation Express synthesis tools. This update will install Express v3.1.

FEXP_SP1A.ZIP is an incremental release to be placed over FEXP_SP1.ZIP, which adds new .pts files to support additional speed grades in the XC4000XLA, XC4000XV, Virtex, and SpartanXL families. If you have already installed FEXP_SP1.ZIP, you only need to rerun the license_upd.bat from this newer FEXP_SP1A.ZIP to gain access to the newer speed grades.

Platform: Window 95/Windows NT

Installation/Use:
Unzip the contents of FEXP_SP1A.ZIP into a Temp directory, maintaining subdirectory structure. The ZIP file will extract a subdirectory called FEXP_SP1, which contains the Service Pack update files as follows:

<TEMP>\fexp_sp1\express_31.exe
<TEMP>\fexp_sp1\license_upd.bat
<TEMP>\fexp_sp1\files\
<TEMP>\readme.txt

To install Express v3.1:

1. Double-click on express_31.exe.
-The InstallShield should automatically fill in the installation directory with the correct location of your current Express software (typically C:\fndtn\synth).
-You should allow the Program Group "Synopsys" to be created for this installation of Express (this is the default).

2. Double-click on license_upd.bat.
***If prompted to overwrite or delete existing files or directories, select "Yes" to overwrite/delete.***

Updating the Express license:

This service pack will install version 3.1.0 of the Synopsys FPGA Express synthesis technology. There are no license file changes required to take advantage of the new synthesis engine.

However, to access the new Schematic Viewer capabilities included with this version of Express, Foundation Express users will need to update the existing PACKAGE entry of their current license.dat file. The new PACKAGE statement can be found at %XILINX%\data\license_update.txt. Please refer to this file for instructions on modifying your LICENSE.DAT file.

Please note that the Schematic Viewer feature is only available for Foundation Express configurations. Foundation Base configurations will not have access to the Schematic Viewer; therefore, there is no need to update the LICENSE.DAT file for Foundation Base systems.

NOTE: The Schematic Viewer is currently available only from Foundation Express in stand-alone mode.

Installation Troubleshooting:

1. The readme file does not come up at the end of an installation on Windows 95.

You may open this file from the Synopsys Program Group at Start -> Programs -> Synopsys -> Readme File.

2. When FPGA Express is invoked from the Synopsys Program Group, a license error occurs.

Open the Express tool from the Foundation Series Program Group at Start -> Programs -> Xilinx Foundation Series -> Accessories -> Foundation Express (rather than the Synopsys Program Group) so that Express sees the correct license file.

3. An error regarding missing DLL files occurs when I attempt to open Foundation Express in stand-alone mode.

This is a symptom of not having run the license_upd.bat file during installation of the Service Pack. Return to the Service Pack files and run license_upd.bat.

File Name:
15i_sp1_4kxla_data2.exe (XC4000XLA)
15i_sp1_spxl_data.exe (SpartanXL)
15i_sp1_virtex_data.exe (Virtex)

Description: Update to Xilinx Device Data Files.

Platform: Windows 95/Windows NT

Installation/Use:

1. Download the desired Data File Update(s) from the Software Updates page at:
http://support.xilinx.com/support/techsup/sw_updates/index.htm.

2. The file self extracts itself and then automatically runs SETUP.EXE. You will be asked to specify the location of your 1.5i installation. (Typically C:\FNDTN). Setup will only update the files that already exist in the original 1.5i area. There are some new files (XC9500XV) that are an exception to this rule.

NOTE: The Data File Update can not be used as the *original* installation for a device family. Instead, the family should be installed from the 1.5i CD, and then updated with the 1.5i Service Pack Data File Update.
