Migrating from Spartan®-6 FPGAs to the 7 series may at first appear daunting. It is a new device architecture, a new development tool, and besides, your design works well in the Spartan-6 FPGA.
To help customers who are considering this migration journey, Xilinx is hosting several free webinars across multiple time zones on Feb 15, 2022. The webinars are being hosted by two experienced FPGA developers, Adam Taylor from Adiuvo Engineering and Training and Romisaa Samhoud (that’s me).
This webinar addresses not only the FPGA devices but toolchain migration, device selection, and specific actions for migration depending upon the classification of design.
The webinar starts with a brief introduction to the 7 series and UltraScale™ device architectures and capabilities. We also provide an architectural comparison between the Spartan-6 FPGA and 7 series devices, enabling customers to understand the different aspects of the architecture.
Of course, a critical element of the migration process is identifying and selecting of the most suitable device. We walk through a decision matrix, which helps customers identify the most appropriate migration device family from Spartan-7 FPGA to Artix®-7 FPGA, Zynq®-7000 SoC, Artix® UltraScale+™ FPGA, or Zynq UltraScale+ MPSoC.
With the architecture and potential target family identified, we address the tool migration differences. We also introduce the productivity benefits that come with Vivado® ML along with the increased design visibility that comes with enhanced reporting capabilities in Vivado ML, e.g., clock domain crossing.
At the end, we provide three example migrations based around a pure RTL migration, MicroBlaze™ processor migration, and an ISE® System Generator Migration before presenting a real-world case study from the field.
We will also provide links to supporting material, blogs, white papers, and guides, which will help on your migration journey.
You can register for any of the available 3 slots (February 15, 2022 | 7AM, 11AM, and 5PM PST) of the webinar here.
